Overview
Three landscapes, one journey
Most safaris move from one park to the next. This one takes a breather in the middle. Between the river country of Nyerere and the great plains of Ruaha you spend three nights in the Southern Highlands, among tea fields and forest at about 2,000 metres.
Nyerere and Ruaha
Rufiji River Camp in Nyerere offers game drives, nature walks and boat safaris on the Rufiji River. Ruaha River Lodge, at the end of the trip, is all about classic game drives along the Great Ruaha River, where elephant, buffalo, antelope and predators gather.
A highland interlude
At Mufindi Highlands Lodge the air is cooler and the pace slower. Optional activities, arranged on request and not included in the price, include hiking through rainforest and tea, horse riding, fly fishing, canoeing and village visits: a real contrast to the early starts of safari life.

Day by day
Day 1Arrival in Dar es Salaam
You are met at Dar es Salaam Airport and taken to your hotel, with help at check-in. The rest of the day is free to rest before the safari begins.

Day 2Fly to Nyerere National Park
After breakfast you are collected for your light-aircraft flight to Nyerere. A guide from Rufiji River Camp meets you and you game view on the way to camp, then head out again in the afternoon.

Days 3 & 4Nyerere National Park
Two days of safari by land and water. Choose from:
- Early morning nature walks
- Early bird and morning game drives

Day 5Nyerere to the Southern Highlands
An early walk or game drive before breakfast, then a flight to the Southern Highlands. Your host from Mufindi Highlands Lodge meets you and drives you through tea fields, forest and villages to the lodge, at about 2,000 metres above sea level.

Days 6 & 7Mufindi and the Southern Highlands
Two days to enjoy the highlands at your own pace. The following are optional, arranged on request, and are not included in the price:

Day 8Mufindi to Ruaha National Park

Two full days in Ruaha: early morning, morning or afternoon game drives, or full days out with a picnic lunch. Private game drives can be arranged.

One final game drive on the way to the airstrip, then a flight to Dar es Salaam, where you are met and helped with your onward flight or hotel.

High season: 1 July to 31 October and 24 December to 4 January. Low season: all other dates.
Prices are per person sharing with at least one other adult. Minimum passenger numbers may apply.
Light-aircraft schedules can change for operational reasons, so flight times are confirmed closer to travel.
The itinerary can be adjusted: more or fewer nights, or different camps.
