Overview
From powerful history to an Atlantic sunset
Some experiences stay with you because of what you see. Others stay with you because of the stories they tell. This Falcon Travel Tours experience combines both. Begin by crossing Table Bay to Robben Island, one of South Africa's most significant historical sites. Later, return to Cape Town and step aboard a sunset cruise as daylight begins to fade over the Atlantic. It is a day of remarkable contrasts.
Journey to Robben Island
After collection from your hotel or another agreed pick-up point, travel to the departure point for your Robben Island experience. Board the ferry and cross Table Bay towards an island recognised around the world for its place in South African history. Robben Island has served many purposes over the centuries, but it is particularly associated with the imprisonment of political prisoners during apartheid. Among them was Nelson Mandela, who spent 18 years imprisoned on the island. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a place where visitors can engage with an important and difficult chapter of South Africa's past.
Back to Cape Town
After returning across Table Bay, the atmosphere of the day begins to change. You are back in one of Cape Town's liveliest areas, with the harbour, city and Table Mountain creating the backdrop for the second part of your experience.
End the day on the Atlantic
Board your sunset cruise and watch Cape Town transform as the afternoon light begins to soften. Look back towards the city and mountains from the ocean, breathe in the sea air and enjoy the simple pleasure of being on the water as the sun begins to disappear. After the history and emotion of Robben Island, the cruise offers a relaxed ending to an unforgettable Cape Town day.
One day. Two unforgettable perspectives.
In the morning, cross the water to a place that helped shape South Africa's history. Later, return to the ocean simply to watch the sun go down.
